Is your "Check Engine" light on❓

Published almost 2 years agoΒ β€’Β 2 min read

HiReader,

Most people fall into 1 of 2 categories when seeing the check engine light come on.

Either they:

  1. Call the mechanic right away to get the car looked at before something happens...OR
  2. They see the light, think, "Oh great", wait until tomorrow and hope the light goes off, wait until next week because the car feels fine, and wait another month until the light finally drives them crazy and they call to make an appointment to bring it in.

Which camp are you in?

Not surprisingly, this is also how most people deal with what goes on in their body.

If you are a number 1, you are all about prevention. When something feels off, you probably start googling right away and figuring out what plan of attack to take.

If you are a number 2, it doesn't mean that you don't care about prevention, but maybe you are busy, and thinking about why you had a sudden case of diarrhea, or why you need that 2nd cup of coffee to get you going in the morning or why you've started popping Tums, is too much to deal with.

It's easy to pop a Tums, drink more coffee, and check your email while sitting on the toilet, but how long will these "remedies" last until your check engine light starts glowing at you?

Let's address the maintenance of your car.

My mom always told me to never let the tank get under 1/4 of a tank (I still have a hard time with this and am usually rolling into the gas station on fumes, lol), to get a regular oil change, and to leave enough space between myself and the next car so that I could brake softly and not wear out the pads.

The maintenance of our bodies can be the hardest part, becuase so many things are easy to live with, ignore and cover up with caffeine, alcohol and over the counter drugs.

Our bodies are meant to self heal and for a lot of things (a muscle pull, a virus, a bout of diarrhea or constipation, a poor nights sleep), they will pass and you will get back to normal without needing to do much more than rest or give your body a break.

But, when symptoms become chronic and you start "living with it", it is your body's check engine light coming on, and its up to you to get it worked on or to ignore it.

One thing is for sure, those check engine lights are so annoying and can only be turned off after you've had your car looked at. I guess that is the point!

Typically, if it has to do with your inside engine, those symptoms won't go away until you address the underlying issue.

Stop, and check in with your body for a minute...is your check engine light on?

If it's time to get your body worked on, I'm here to help, and if I can't, I am happy to point you in the right direction.

Happy Mother's Day weekend!

Christa 😊

Hi Reader, Happy Spring! It's still cold here in the Northeast, but the daffodils are blooming so spring MUST be coming! Do you ever have pesky symptoms that bother you? That's really a trick question because everyone does as one time or another. Well, I've always been one to want to dig in to find out why, and that's looking for what they call "the root cause". Most quick fixes (ie. OTC medications) provide a bandaid, but it's really important to know WHY whatever it is that's happening, is...

Hi Reader, We are more than halfway through January and I still feel like I'm slowly easing into the year. Anyone else feeling that too? The days are cold and gloomy here in the Northeast, and all I want to think about is being warm and cozy! What is the ultimate act of self-love? It's self-care. Why Self-Care? Because You're Worth It! ✨ In the hustle and bustle of life, it's easy to forget the most important person in the roomβ€”you! We go day in and day out taking care of our family, our...

Hi Reader, Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday! There is nothing I love more than the feeling of a new year and starting off with a clean slate. New ideas, new goals, new inspiration. With this, also comes the marketing of resolutions - "do this", "don't do that", there are so many words of advice coming at you all at once. It can be hard to ignore them because, if you are like me, I want to make the best choice for myself. This is the height of shiny object syndrome time....
